University Startups Partners with Eastern Shore Community College to Bring Valuable Career & College Preparation Resources to Area Students

Interested in learning how to create resumes, cover letters and prepare for interviews with local companies? That’s just one of the courses University Startups (USU) has launched to benefit Eastern ShoreCommunity College (ESCC) students, surrounding high schools and the local workforce community.

This month, USU and ESCC launched a unique Employment Search course that teaches students critical skills for entering the workforce or moving up in a career. To support this effort, earlier this year, the partners worked to develop an Entrepreneur-in-Residence program to bring community business leaders to campus and train them as mentors to support student career aspirations and local job networking.

"University Startups is thrilled to work with Eastern Shore Community College in support of efforts in the college and with surrounding high schools and the business community,” said Marc Steren, Co-CEO.

ESCC students have also been invited to participate in the USU Impact Internship program, a virtual opportunity to develop business skills by performing very short weekly online tasks. ImpactInterns also gain 24/7 access to the USU Lightning Lessons Library, a collection of short online learning modules that cover a variety of topics from resume writing to passion projects.

“Eastern Shore Community College is excited to offer these new programs with University Startups to encourage our students to take steps to prepare for their futures and expand crucial workforce skills,” said Jim Shaeffer, President of Eastern Shore CommunityCollege.

The partners have expanded their partnership to Exmore, Virginia based Broadwater Academy, where dual enrollment students affiliated with ESCC have begun taking USU courses on College Counseling and College Essay Writing. They also have the opportunity to join the Impact Internship program to develop their skills.
