Do You Have a Business or a Startup Idea? University Startups Can Help! Apply Now for the Equity Incubator

Washington, DC, August 22nd 2023: Applications are now being accepted for the Lab for Entrepreneurship and Transformative Leadership (The Lab). The Lab will host its fourth Equity Incubator at The Universities at Shady Grove (USG). Don’t wait! Applications are open and available until August 31st. The program begins September 20th and includes an exciting “Shark Tank” style competition. This 8-week program is the region’s most prominent Minority Entrepreneurship Incubator and is facilitated by expert instructors from University Startups. Throughout the program, local entrepreneurs and small business owners participate in workshops, research, experiments, and mentoring to develop their business ideas. The course curriculum includes three tracks - Concept, Scale, and Accelerator - for entrepreneurs at any stage.

This Incubator is open to students, alumni, faculty, staff,  and community members and is free to apply! Applicants will receive 1-1 mentorship with experienced entrepreneurs in various fields. If you are interested in participating, applications close on the 31st of August and can be found here

Last spring, teams presented to an esteemed panel of judges. During the pitch competition the judges gave feedback, asked questions, and scored each team on their business concept, traction, and presentation. The $10,000, first-place prize was awarded to La Magnoliah. Inspired by her son, Coumba Graves realized her passion for creating quality garments using chemical-free and breathable fabrics, like Pima cotton, to promote healthy and ethically made children’s clothing. That was the start of her venture as La Magnoliah, read more about the competition here.
